NDCN is a public entity established by the National Disability Council of Namibia Act, 2004 (Act No. 26 of 2004) to monitor the implementation of the National Policy on Disability in the manner provided in this Act.

The NDCN is mandated in general to take all necessary steps to improve the situation of persons with disabilities in Namibia.

Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs)

The NDCN mandate provides for the promotion and coordination of issues about persons with disabilities as well as the capacity development of persons with disabilities in Namibia;

The NDCN, as the Funding Organization in terms of this agreement, sends out a call for proposals for funding amongst Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in the areas of capacity development and training; Advocacy/awareness raising/ outreach activities; and Projects aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, new business models and development approaches with the potential to be scaled-up and subsequently supported through other financing.

Namibia College of Open Learning (NAMCOL)

The NDCN is concerned with the large number of unemployed persons with disabilities in Namibia which is attributed to their lack of education and training;

The NDCN established an education support program for students with disabilities who wish to upgrade their marks/ grades obtained in Grades 11 and 12 through courses offered by NAMCOL to assist persons with disabilities to be admitted at various tertiary institutions, increase their suitability for employment and general capacitate them to be self-reliant.
