Legal Compliance and Company Secretariat

The department aims to provide legal direction and leadership toward the achievement of NDCN’s philosophy, values, vision, mission, strategy, goals and objectives. To provide comprehensive professional legal and administrative support to the Management, the Board, training and development budget for the board, sub-committees, members and administration.

Research & Development

The department aims to coordinate research and development activities, create and manage linkages and platforms that promote disability issues, create and deepen disability awareness, and recognize outstanding contributions made by persons with disability in Namibia.

Awareness raising

To improve the lives of persons with disabilities in Namibia through awareness raising on the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities To create a platform for knowledge brokerage between the disability sector, other public sectors, and industry to promote and enhance the inclusion and integration of persons with disabilities. This serves as a vehicle to create awareness and understanding of disability issues and to mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities.

Education Assistance

The NDCN & NAMCOL entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on enrolling learners with disabilities who wish to improve their performance for Grades 11 and 12. This funding is provided because most learners with disabilities may not have funds to enable them to enroll with NAMCOL, hence the NDCN will assist financially based on the signed MOU.
The fee covers the following:
a) Registration fee;
b) Tuition fee; and
c) Examination fee

Capacity development

Improving the lives of persons with disabilities through building capacity, skills, and know-how of the staff of the Council and persons with disabilities in Namibian Projects are identified that can increase or improve capacity within the disability fraternity. The stakeholders are collaborated with as to the specifics of the projects. A project document is created specifying objectives, outcomes, & duration.

Disability Monitoring and Compliance

Disability Monitoring Report
• Collecting data on National Disability Policy implementation.
• Producing an annual report reflecting policy implementation progress.
• Conducting training sessions on the Disability Monitoring Report for Regional Councils and Local Authorities and O/M.As

Disability Accessibility Standards

The NDCN spearheaded the development of the Namibian Disability Accessibility Standards in partnership with the Namibia Standards Institution (NSI). This initiative aims to establish comprehensive standards ensuring accessibility for all persons with disabilities in public buildings, infrastructure, and information.

Economic Empowerment

Establishing partnership with institutions for economic empowerment training, including entrepreneurship training for persons with disabilities.

Empowering Organizations of Persons with Disabilities

The NDCN established the funding agreement with all OPDs, where the NDCN funds each OPD project yearly.

Sign Language Interpretation Services

Providing Sign Language interpretation services to ensure accessibility for all.
